Here is a selection of research-through-design projects that reflect my longstanding interest in experiences of our designed worlds and their ethical dimensions.
VIVIEN is a fictional digital estate planning service for provoking reflection on digital identity management at the end of life, a new and emotive issue in society that presents significant interaction design challenges.
VIVIEN emerged from a scoping study with Sarah Martindale, combining Design and Audience Studies to explore Design Fiction as a methodology for critically engaging research stakeholders in near future concepts. The VIVIEN branding was embedded in props for stakeholder interaction, giving form to scenes and characters in a story world that we created to anchor speculative thinking between stakeholders and researchers around the subject.
The piece uniquely explored the creation of a soundscape for people to engage with in conjunction with a series of props, and was exhibited at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in 2013.
